Russ Shomberg is an Ocean Systems Engineer dedicated to advancing marine robotics through innovative, SWAP-C limited alternatives that enhance global accessibility to scientific research. Currently, he serves as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Maryland Robotics Center at University of Maryland.
Russ earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University and completed both his Master’s and Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering at the University of Rhode Island under the guidance of Dr. Brennan Phillips. Prior to entering graduate school he served as a Cryptology Officer in the US Navy.
His research focuses on developing low-cost deep-sea robotics and sensors, aiming to make underwater exploration more accessible and efficient. With a commitment to pushing the boundaries of ocean technology, Russ is passionate about creating solutions that empower researchers and broaden our understanding of marine environments.
