WHAT WE DO

Arts for All is a campuswide initiative and one of the Five Bold Actions announced by Dr. Darryll J. Pines when he was invested as the 34th President of the University of Maryland on April 22, 2021. Through Arts for All we seek to ensure that the arts are woven into the very fabric of life at the University of Maryland and we support partnerships that foster creative and scholarly excellence among campus arts practitioners and scholars in ways that engage all parts of the campus and local communities in collaborative creative practice.

MISSION

Arts for All’s mission is to humanize the world’s grand challenges and to center people-based, creative processes as we work collectively to investigate and address the issues facing our region, nation, and world. Arts for All is centered around four core pillars:

  1. We work to highlight and expand upon the strengths of our arts disciplines: music, theater, dance, visual art, creative writing, and design.
  2. We seek to ensure that every student at the University of Maryland has a meaningful creative experience by constantly moving our arts disciplines toward greater accessibility and representation.
  3. We promote arts-based, interdisciplinary research in partnership with engineering, the data sciences, and technology to ensure that all of our faculty and students develop as creative, collaborative thinkers.
  4. We leverage the community-building and community-transforming power of the arts in addressing regional, national, and global grand challenges, and we do so in ways that use the arts to promote equity and justice.
