2025 Thesis Exhibitions.

Location: University of Maryland Art Gallery
2202 Parren J. Mitchell Art-Sociology Building

The 2025 MFA Thesis Exhibition Series features two exhibitions highlighting work by UMD Department of Art MFA students graduating at the end of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Ripple/cluster
Join us for the exhibition opening and reception on Wed, April 16, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition will be on display and open to the public from April 17-May 1, 2025.

Ripple/cluster features work by MFA candidates Margaret Walker and Trevon Coleman. Memory, time, history and archive are material in the layers of the worlds created by Walker and Coleman. The artists explore the collection of points-of-return in their own histories and image archives, inviting viewers to conduct their own way-finding.

Substitute Reality
Join us for the exhibition opening and reception on Thu, May 8, from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition will be on display and open to the public from May 9-23, 2025.

Substitute Reality features work by MFA candidates Jill McCarthy Stauffer and Varvara Tokareva. Dystopian speculation stands alongside past visions of utopia to create a sense of the uncanny and surreal. Both artists investigate the role of technology in our perception of reality, the environment, and society.
