Location: The David C. Driskell Center, room 1207
Join us for a one-of-a-kind experience in The Driskell Center gallery. Deity of the Circle is an installation and interactive performance piece for three voices, clarinet and electronics. Audience members are invited to participate in the work through simple choreography, call-and-response, clapping and answering questions. Please plan to arrive before the 4 p.m. start time to make the most of the experience.
Deity of the Circle is co-created by artists Armond Dorsey, Bonita Oliver and Eli Berman—winners of the 2024–25 David C. and Thelma G. Driskell Award for Creative Excellence. This award allows emerging artists or scholars to work with The Driskell Center’s collections and archives in self-directed research leading to the creation of new artistic work or scholarship.
This project is made possible by The Thompson Award for Artistic Excellence in the Visual Arts Fund and is supported by the University of Maryland's Arts for All initiative, the Meyerhoff Center for Jewish Studies and the Department of African American and Africana Studies.
