Associate Professor in Visual Communication, The Philip Merrill College of Journalism

Krishnan Vasudevan is a critical scholar and filmmaker at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, whose work examines technology, culture and capital. His documentary feature, One Driver, One Mic, about taxi driver activism was an official selection at the 2023 Big Sky Documentary Film Festival and is now in distribution through Collective Eye Films. His next film, Signs of Life, examines the efforts to create a sustainable and equitable future for South Baltimore that jettisons its toxic, industrial present. This project, like Krishnan's previous ethnographic and film work, will result in both a feature-length film and media collaborations with participants. Krishnan has published research in well regarded publications including New Media & SocietyJournalism Studies and he is the co-editor of forthcoming special issue of Information, Communication & Society about platform capitalism. Previously as a multimedia journalist, Krishnan produced extensively with the New York Times and Slate. He received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and his MA in News and Documentary from New York University. In his free time, Krishnan enjoys spending time with his twin sons, making pizza and performing music under the moniker, Dangerlight.
