Each year, we invite students to create works of art on a theme of peace and reconciliation. In collaboration with the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences and the College of Arts and Humanities and co-sponsored by the Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development and Arts for All, this competition showcases students from art, music, film and creative writing programs.

A first-place Sadat Art award-winning painting from March 13, 2025 depicts an industrial waterfront scene in rich blues, browns, and golds with architectural elements, structural beams, and ghostly human figures. The textured mixed-media work combines abstract and representational elements to evoke labor and maritime industry. The complex composition layers geometric structures with atmospheric depth and subtle figuration.

2025’s submissions were inspired by Greta Thunberg's words: “The fight for social justice is the fight for climate justice. We can’t have one without the other.” The winning pieces highlight the intersection between social and environmental justice.
