We are so excited to invite you all to the first ever event in our "Folding Identity: AAPI Zines in Conversation and Practice" event series! "Folding Identity" aims to put AAPI DMV zinesters, faculty, and the UMD community in conversation and collaboration. Art making and print culture are inseparable from the Asian American identity, and amid threats to our livelihood under systems of oppression, imperialism, and genocide, we ask: what can zines do to keep our community alive? 

Join us for a conversation, some food, and a zine workshop with DMV(-ish) zine artists Margaret Huey (@durianpunk) and Anthony Le (@vagabondzine), along with Dr. Rossina Zamora Liu as our faculty conversationalist, on Tuesday, September 29th. We'll begin the first 45 minutes or so in a discussion, break for some food, and then spend an hour making zines together and led by our artists. Feel free to stick around or drop by!

Margaret Huey is a Thai-American artist, educator, and entertainer operating out of Baltimore. Her work  draws from metal music, anime, cultural heri- tage, and sci fi/fantasy to explore the meeting  points of the tough and tender. @durianpunk

Anthony Le aka “Ant Honey” is a Washington, D.C.-based  artist and performer and identifies as  Vietnamese, American and Queer. Le works  across drag, performance, painting, video,  printmaking, and curation. @vagabondzine

Dr. Rossina Zamora Liu researches racial and social  justice education; art-based counterstorytelling; and  critical racial consciousness among Asian American,  Black, and other non-Black young people.
